The Altus Jr. High Band is comprised of three separate classes; Fundamental Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band. Students are placed in one of the three bands that best supports their level of musicianship. Any student that is willing to learn and is excited about music is eligible to join the Fundamental band without any previous experience in band. Any student that has previously passed a beginning band class anywhere in the World is invited to join the Concert Band. Admission into the Symphonic band is by audition or through a selection process guided by the band directors. All three bands perform in Altus on a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert. The Concert and Symphonic bands perform at home Junior High Football games as well as compete at a Pre-District Contest and at the OSSAA District Band Contest. All of the Altus Junior High Bands have a history of consistently receiving superior ratings at OSSAA district band stage contest and sight-reading contests as well as earning the OSSAA Outstanding Achievement Award.
With Altus being the home of Altus Air Force Base, we have military families moving to our community all throughout the school year and summer break. We are always excited to receive new band members through the military. You are always welcome in our band family. If you know that you are being transferred to Altus, please call one of our band directors in advance so that we can plan ahead for your arrival and let us welcome you properly.
